Eye Test & Examinations Preston
At Clare and Howard we are committed to providing you with the highest standard of eyecare. Your regular visits not only enable us to make you see more clearly by providing you with varied types of optical correction but also play an important part in assessing your overall healthcare.
Importance of Regular Eye Examinations
Eyesight is very precious and our qualified optometrists are trained to provide first class care and attention. Not only can an eye examination detect ophthalmic needs it may also, surprisingly, detect systemic problems. A regular eye examination is, therefore, imperative for everyone.
Latest Electronic Eye-testing Equipment
Our eye examinations use the latest technology to make sure that we are as thorough as possible. We have the most up to date electronic eye-testing equipment which enables us to correct your vision accurately.
We have three types of eye examination available to you.
The STANDARD test involves a full refraction which would identify if an optical corrction is required. The health of the interior of the eye would be assessed using a small hand held torch called an ophthalmoscope and the exterior examined by a big microscope called a slit lamp. If you are above 40 years of age we will also check the pressure of your eyes to eliminate glaucoma. This examination is free for patients who have NHS entitlement or £40.00 for our private patients.
The ADVANCED test is as our standard examination, plus 'OPTOMAP' retinal photography. The 'Optomap' scans the back of the eye and takes a picture of virtually the entire retina. It is quick, painless, and non-invasive and the images are captured on to our computer system and stored for future reference. The cost of this examination is £30.00 for patients who have NHS entitlement, or £70.00 for our private patients.
We also offer eye scans with our OCT machine which can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers. This allows your optometrist to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with diagnosis.
The EXTENDED testis our advanced test, plus visual field assessment and blood pressure monitoring. This is an hour long examination undertaken by Charlotte Bailey. The cost for this examination is £90.00 for those who have NHS entitlement or £110.00 for our private patients.
WE WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND TAKING OPTOMAP PICTURES AND OCT FOR ANY PATIENT BUT PARTICULARLY PATIENTS OVER 60 AND THOSE WITH A FAMILY HISTORY OF AGE RELATED MACULA DEGENERATION OR GLAUCOMA.
